President, League of Women Voters Cuyahoga Area

As president of the League of Women Voters Cuyahoga Area, I welcome you to our website. I hope you’ll find it informative and learn what the League can do for you. By joining and supporting this highly credible and unique group of nonpartisan but political men and women, you can strengthen the League’s voice for Democracy.

My own League history takes me back to Dearborn, Michigan about 1966 when a friend invited me to a League meeting. I vividly remember that meeting because the subject was China, a country that was, at that time, politically closed to the outside world. The meeting inspired me to seek out more information about China and its people. The audience discussion and questions during that first meeting made me a more critical listener, eager to know more, and I joined the League that evening.

As you explore this website, you’ll discover many areas that interest Leaguers: Natural Resources, Environment, Social Policy, International Relations, Governmental Structure and all aspects of the voting process at all levels of government. The League examines these public policy issues from what’s happening nationally to what’s happening in our backyard. You’ll read positions that have been reached by careful study at the local, state and national levels, and you’ll learn about the process of reaching "member consensus," which is the hallmark of the League of Women Voters.

You can participate in the organization and in the political process in a myriad of ways and commitment levels. League members are a diverse group of people but they have one thing in common – they’re curious! They all want to know more and they want you to know it, too. They’ll tell you, invite you, enlist you, entice you, and entertain you. Work with us on a project, and you’ll want to know more, too.

The League of Women Voters knows that "Democracy is Not a Spectator Sport." Here’s your invitation to JUMP IN!
