Ethics – a much-used five-letter throughout Cuyahoga County – is receiving special attention within the League of Women Voters. On April 21, 2012, members of the LWV-Cuyahoga Area will be prompted to think about the role of ethics policies in local governments in a presentation by a three-League committee. The meeting will take place at 10:15 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. branch of the Cleveland Public Library, conveniently located in University Circle at 1962 Stokes Blvd. |
| LWVUS Study on Privatization |

The League of Women Voters Cuyahoga Area will be participating in the LWVUS study on privatization with a consensus meeting on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Massimo de Milano restaurant, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. A buffet lunch will be available for $11.00. Mr Zach Schiller from Policy Matters Ohio will speak, followed by discussion and consensus. According to the LWVUS web site, the scope of the study is to identify those parameters and policy issues to be considered in connection with proposals to transfer federal, state or local government services, assets and/or functions to the private sector. It will review the stated goals and the community impact of such transfers, and identify strategies to ensure transparency, accountability, and preservation of the common good. |
| Mock Elections Continue in Local High Schools |

Four area high schools are participating in the High School Mock Election project, now in its fourth year. High schools participating in the popular three-day project include Brush, Parma, Brecksville-Broadview Heights, and Fairview High Schools. The League of Women Voters of Ohio Education Fund (LWVOEF) is thrilled to be part of the Ohio Campaign for Accountable Redistricting and a primary sponsor of the 2011 Redistricting Competition. As the Ohio Apportionment Board prepares to meet in August to draw the lines for state legislative districts and the Ohio legislature considers congressional redistricting this fall, now is the time to show that electoral districts reflecting public interest criteria are possible! The League of Women Voters Cuyahoga Area has named Shaker Heights resident Lynda B. Mayer as its“2011 Leaguer of the Year” in recognition of her outstanding efforts as an advocate for good government. A celebratory luncheon and League benefit was held Saturday, April 16, 2011. The event included a cash bar, luncheon, live and silent auctions, raffles, and entertainment by DJ Ray Carr. Proceeds benefit the League’s advocacy and education programs. |
